Lyrissa Nicole
Bio
Lyrissa was born in the San Gabriel Valley, just outside Los Angeles, and grew up in the suburbs of Covina. In 2019, they earned associate degrees in Studio Art and Visual Art at Citrus College in Glendora, CA. Currently, Lyrissa is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in 3D and Extended Media at the University of Arizona. They draw inspiration from the exploration of how their gender-nonconforming, disabled body navigates in late-stage capitalism in America. Lyrissa is a service-connected disabled U.S. Navy veteran, and uses this experience as a catalyst in their art practice.
Lyrissa has co-curated and exhibited in Roots of Resilience at the Lionel Rombach Gallery at the University of Arizona. They were also one of four students selected for Dystopian Dreams, a new media exhibition at Sculpture Tucson curated by Joseph Farbrook, head of the 3D and Extended Media department at the University of Arizona. As a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, Lyrissa conducted original research under the mentorship of lydia see, assembling an accessibility toolkit for multimedia artists based on existing museum and disability studies research.
